Sioux Falls Imaging, a division of Sioux Falls Surgical Center, helps your physician diagnose many conditions faster, safer, and more accurately then ever before, thanks to a new technology called Magnetic Resonance Imaging, or MRI.
How An Open MRI Works
The technology uses magnetic fields and radio waves to scan your body, seeing past hard bone to produce a "picture" of soft tissues such as muscle, fat and internal organs. The procedure has no known side effects, so it is safe and effective for practically everyone.
Your MRI is performed in a special room that contains an examination table and the MRI imager. Although the imager itself can be imposing, the procedure is simple and safe.
You will be asked to lie on your back on the table, which slides into the center of the MRI imager. You will be able to talk to the technologist throughout the procedure.
The MRI technologist and radiologist will review the images during the scan, which will usually last from 30 minutes to 2 hours.
